Linux basically is an operating system. Linux is very similar to Windows 7,8,10. Linux is just an operating system. so the question is what is an OS operating system.
What is Operating System?
Whenever you open your device Laptop or Computer and then you open applications like VLC Player, Google Chrome, Word, Exel etc and you think that you can do this but behind the scene, your operating system manage all these things and these applications works properly and then you can watch HD videos on VLC Player and search on Google through Google Chrome.
Let make it more simple by an example. You are in a big building and there are many employs working on their specific tasks. So the employs are applications who are working on their specific tasks. But how the whole building run? who is managing that everything is okay or not? Operating System provides every facility to the application for work properly.
Operating System history
As I mentioned in above that operating system handle and manage everything about applications but in past, it is very difficult to manage applications because at that time operating system was not there and when we want to install any application then first we need to create a code for that particular application and the code you had created that will work as operating system then you will use this application.
And the most difficult thing is you can not copy that code because the hardware is different and the code you had created it will be limited to your computer.
A new operating system invented at this difficult time on the fair whose name is CP/M. And then IBM thinking that they will acquire CP/M by creating his new Operating System but it does not happen. On that time a boy help to the IBM to creating such Operating system whose name is DOS and the name of that boy is Bill Gates.
And after DOS Mr. Gates’s progress began and he never turned back again and today he is the world’s richest man.
Windows vs Linux
Now you are thinking that we are doing everything easily by windows so why we need to choose Linus.
So some developers thought that windows have limited options we need to work freely that’s why they develop Linux. The same thing is with Linux a developer thought about it and then found people together and then became a company later discovered Linux.
So the Linux is basically an operating system like windows. They have kernel like other operating systems. The kernel is the fundamental part of any operating system whether it is Android OS, Windows Os or Linux. The Kernel is work as a bridge between software and hardware. There are many versions of Linux some are following:
Fedora
Ubuntu
Arch Linux
Mandriva Linux.
When you use Linux maybe you will face difficulties but there are many versions of Linux. All versions are available in different scenarios. Linux is completely free while windows are very expensive.
Secure
Linux is more secure than windows but not completely secure. you can install it on every machine whether it is new or old.
